Outlander Tour (a Claire and Jamie Experience)

Outlander - Claire and Jamie

What if Your Future was the Past? Come and Explore the Land that inspired Outlander!

Whether you are a fan of the Outlander TV Series and want to see the film locations or an avid reader of the Diana Gabaladon's books, 'Cross Stitch' ('Tapestry') ;'Voyager' ; 'The Fiery Cross';'Drums in Autumn'; 'Dragonfly in Amber' or just want to enjoy a wonderful, personal, leisurely tour around some of Scotland's finest scenery. I will also suggest excellent comfortable accommodation to suit your requirements. This bespoke, driver-guided tour may be perfect for you.

We start in Edinburgh for two nights, so you can relax after your journey to Scotland and take in the sites of the Old Town, many of the buildings still existing from when Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall came to the city in search of Bonnie Prince Charlie.

Edinburgh Edinburgh street

Enjoy exploring the Royal Mile and it's many closes and wynds, maybe savour some of the local inns, many of which serve delicious food.

Falkland street House in Culross Meet a local

On one of these days we can venture over the Firth of Forth to the picturesque villages of Culross (Cranesmuir in Outlander. It is the village closest to Castle Leoch where Claire visits for herbal medicine supplies). We may even meet one of the 'locals'! We also visit Falkand (Inverness 1946 in Outlander). You can even go inside what was Mrs Bairds Bed and Breakfast for refreshments, as it is actually a hotel. The village parish church was renamed Delneigh Parish Church

Meeting William Wallace

If time permits we can also visit the film locations of the headquarters of Black Jack Randall and Jamie Fraser's own home of Lallybroch.

We leave the city of Edinburgh behind and then start to travel north to Doune Castle, which took the part of Castle Leoch in the filming. The castle is open to the public so you can explore this magnificent huge ruin.

Living History Thatched croft

We drive through the Grampian Mountains and into the Highlands heading for Inverness where you can relax for 2 nights. En-route we will visit a Living History Museum (Leoch village in Outlander) to see how people lived and worked in the 18th century in their thatched croft houses.

Culloden House

At Inverness you could stay at a Big Hoose like Culloden House, where it is said that Bonnie Prince Charlie stayed the night before the fateful battle of Culloden at Drummossie Moor, or you could opt for a very comfortable bed and breakfast/guesthouse in Inverness, as Claire and Frank did. Just like Mrs Bairds it will be clean and quiet but will definitely not have 'a coin-operated water heater in the bathroom' or 'fading floral wallpaper'!

Highlander with sword
Culloden Battlefield memorial

We visit atmospheric Culloden Battlefield where many clans including the Frasers and MacKenzies fought for the Jacobite Cause with Prince Charles Edward Stuart in 1745. The Battlefield Visitor Centre and a walk on the battlefield itself are very moving and interesting experiences.

We also visit nearby the mysterious Clava Cairns, these ancient standing stones and passage graves could have inspired Craigh na Dun. Dare you put your hand through the stones?

We then travel a little further north and west and into Fraser and MacKenzie country. We explore the pretty town of Beauly with its ancient priory, resting place of many Frasers and will visit the clan seat of the MacKenzies. We will overnight in this part of the Fraser clan lands.

Pony trekking in Glen Affric

You may like to explore picturesque Glen Affric on horseback, which can be arranged, to experience what it was like for Jamie and Claire to see this very beautiful part of the Highlands.

Clan Fraser stone
Flask, targe

We leave Inverness and travel down the banks of Loch Ness to Urquhart Castle where Frank and Claire enjoyed a picnic, perhaps you could do the same if the weather is clement or enjoy a boat trip on the loch.Driving through the Great Glen to Fort William (the headquarters of Black Jack Randall in Outlander), we continue through atmospheric Glencoe to Strathyre, returning to Edinburgh. Journeys End.

Like Claire, you will also get to know and love Scotland, its scenery, people and culture. Embrace the past and enjoy the future on your Claire and Jamie Experience!
